Rooted in the ideals of equality, human dignity, and rationalism, the movement was inspired by Sree Narayana Guru and Arattupuzha Velayudha Panikkar.
Sree Narayana Guru provided the spiritual and ethical foundation, while Arattupuzha Velayudha Panikkar’s fearless struggles for human rights—such as the Achipudava, Ethappu, and Mukkuthi movements—and his fight against caste oppression deeply influenced Ayyappan. Panikkar also worked for women’s dignity, temple entry for all castes, and labor rights.
Guided by Ayyappan’s principle, “Jathi Venda, Matham Venda, Daivam Venda Manushyanu,” the organization promoted social unity beyond caste and religion. In 2014, it evolved into Samoohika Munnetta Munnani. Today, under the leadership of Chairman K. P. Anil Dev and General Secretary Dr. B. Abdul Salam, it continues Kerala’s renaissance legacy by promoting social harmony, empowerment, and progressive thought.
